Flint Wilderness Resort June 4-11, 2011

June 17th, 2011 by admin

During the week of June 4-11, 2011 the guests at Flint Wilderness Resort enjoyed another week of excellent fishing in the Canadian great outdoors. A number of the guests ventured off to some of our remote lakes for some wilderness fishing. Hank and I ventured off to our outpost on Flint Lake to get it ready for a group of fishermen for the next week. Take a look at the video and see what your missing. Give us a call so we can help you experience what we live every day.
Looking forward to fishing with you. Bert

The week of May 28- June 4th offered some challenges with gale force winds and 3 days of power outages. We had to be creative on our Tuesday’s hog roast with camp stoves, and baked beans and other dishes cooked on the grill. Despite the weather we had a great hog roast. When the winds were over and the sun shined the fish started biting. Some folks fished the remote lakes, and some stayed right on Klotz Lake. Take a look at the video and check out all of the excitement.

We have started the 2011 fishing season at Flint Wilderness Resort with a bang. With a full house, the fishermen enjoyed catching lots of excellent Walleye and Northern Pike. We had groups that have been visiting us for the last 30 years and folks that were first time guests. It was a pleasure helping them enjoy a Canadian fishing trip. Take a look at this week’s video and see the action at Flint Wilderness Resort. We look forward to fishing with you in the future. Bert

The bears name was called Lugnut and she had 3 male cubs with her. Randy and his crew where true profisionals. They took data from the bears so that they can keep track of one of Maines true treasures, the Maine Black Bear.

Controlling Maine’s Coyotes

March 31st, 2010 by admin

Okay, so we all know about the coyote and the trouble they cause.  But, how much is your state doing to control them?  I am happy to say that the people and organizations of Maine are doing their best.  From night hunting to the trapping season to winter bait hunting around designated deer yards.  In the past few months the coyote situation has been top priority in Maine.  There is the average hunter doing his part and there are organizations like the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, Maine Trapper’s Association and the Maine Professional Guide’s Association.  Not only are they killing coyotes they are also educating hunters through seminars and DVDs on where and when to do this.  It is one thing to take a coyote, but it is another to take a coyote at the right time of year and location.  This is the best way to cut back on their breeding or to decrease the pack during the winter.  I am starting to see clubs putting on more hunting tournaments now than I have ever seen in the past.  We have to say that the eastern coyote is truly an amazing animal with the ability to survive anywhere.  But, putting that aside they have to be controlled.  I am happy to say that the sportsmans of Maine are finally taking a step forward in the right direction.  We all have to do our part.

Happy Hunting!

Good Bye Snow-Hello Spring Fishing

March 19th, 2010 by admin

Sarah - Trophy Pike 2009

Well,  the snow is melting and it’s getting warmer outside,  time to put away the shovel and break out the fishing pole. Spring is in the air and that makes me think of large Northern Pike and Walleye. My brother Bert and I will be leaving in a few weeks to open our fishing resort in Northern Ontario (Flint Wilderness Resort). We have owned the resort for the last twenty years and have made many inprovements. From the fully equipped cabins to the 14 ft. Deluxe Lunds. The Arctic watershed has some of the finest fishing in the world. We fish a total of 13 lakes and maintain a newly renovated outpost on Flint Lake, a 14 mile boat ride from the main resort. This outpost sleeps 8 and has electric lights, running water, range and refrigerator. The fishing on Klotz Lake can handle everyone from the serious angler who is looking for the 20 lb. Pike or 10lb Walleye and the kids who just want to put a sucker on the end of a bobber and fish the weed line.  So, I invite you and your family to come north to our beautiful fishing resort and experience the fishing you have only dreamed about.

Hope to see you there!!

Transporting Firearms Across State Lines

March 15th, 2010 by admin

Teresa Hodge – 2009

 Hi Everyone,

One of the most important questions  that we get from our hunters is “What are the laws on transporting my guns across state lines?”.  So, for those of you that are not familiar with federal laws on transporting firearms check out this NRA website for more information.

Here at North Country Lodge our hunters have come from around the world including – Germany, Mexico, Norway and Canada.   And, of course just about every state.  Just this past 2009 season we have had some great people hunting with us from California, Florida and our good friend Teresa Hodge from Texas.  Teresa made her way from Texas to Maine in the third week of the hunting season and was thrilled to harvest her first black bear with us.

Check out our 2009 black bear gallery

For those of you that harvested a bear with us in 2008 and participated in the Bear Aging Program with the Inland Fish and Wildlife Department of Maine.  Check out their report.  It’s studies like this that will only increase our outstanding population of Black Bears.

So we invite you to join us at North Country Lodge on your next hunting trip.

  Happy Hunting,

  Hank
